  • ENERGY LOSSES CONSIDERED

    Figure 1

The WindWing is scalable to fit the needs of a specific application within a predictable wind environment. It can be adapted for prevalent low wind as well as for high wind conditions. The limits on the scaling are determined only by engineering considerations that need to be adjusted for increased size. Performance is a direct function of the total wing surface area in contact with the wind force. Sizing may range from desktop dimensions to the area of a C130 military cargo aircraft or even larger.

    Figure 2

A sensing system, meteorologically controlled, continuously repositions the leading edge of the airfoil perpendicular to the incident wind and simultaneously adjusts its angle of attack to maximize wind force harvesting. The symmetrical airfoil, utilizing the Bernoulli principle, is automatically adjusted to a zero lift configuration in excessively high wind conditions.

This test and verification model is being used to generate data for re-engineering and for predicting the potential harvesting capabilities of the WindWing for incremental increases in wind velocities. It is a portable model that can be taken into variable wind conditions for engineering evaluations and data collection,

Each component of the WindWing or the WaterWing is either manufactured by or for W2 to exacting specifications to insure consistency of quality. Every effort is made to incorporate parts into the design that have been proved in other industries and have shown long life and low maintenance in their use. The design simplicity of the units allows for the use of a wide range off-the-shelf parts readily available from established manufacturers and suppliers.

W2 considers the placement of its technology to be an essential element in its design. The importance of environmental neutrality has been of primary concern in the deployment process. All elements in the manufacture, transport, installation, operation and removal have been considered in the decisions appropriate to each element within the system.
